Measuring Perimeter

Perimeter = total length around the boundary of a shape. For a rectangle: add all 4 sides. Example: rectangle 5 cm × 3 cm. Perimeter = 5+3+5+3 = 16 cm. For a square: 4 equal sides. Perimeter = 4 × side. Example: square with side 4 cm. Perimeter = 4×4 = 16 cm. Perimeter is used to find how much fencing, wire or string to go around a shape.
