Tessellations

Tessellation = tiling pattern where shapes fit together with no gaps or overlaps. Shapes that tessellate: squares, rectangles, triangles, regular hexagons. Shapes that don't: circles (leave gaps), regular pentagons. Honeybee combs are hexagonal tessellations — the most efficient use of space! Floor tiles, bathroom tiles, brickwork are all examples of tessellations.
