How We Hear

Sound is a vibration that travels through air to our ears. The ear has: Outer ear (pinna) — collects sound, like a funnel. Ear canal — channels sound inward. Eardrum — vibrates when sound hits it. Ossicles (3 tiny bones: malleus, incus, stapes) — amplify vibrations. Cochlea (snail-shaped) — converts vibrations to nerve signals. Auditory nerve — sends signals to brain, which interprets them as sound.
