Multiplying by 10, 100, 1000

Shortcut: Multiply by 10: add one zero. 47×10=470. Multiply by 100: add two zeros. 47×100=4700. Multiply by 1000: add three zeros. 47×1000=47000. WHY? Because place values shift left: 47 → 4 hundreds 7 tens (×10). This rule makes mental multiplication very fast! Use it: 25×40 = 25×4×10 = 100×10 = 1000.
