Class 5Environmental StudiesA Snake Charmer's Story
Snake Senses and Movement
Snakes have unique senses: Forked tongue (flicks to collect smell particles, sends to Jacobson's organ in roof of mouth โ "smells" the air!). Heat pits (pit vipers have heat-sensing organs on face โ detect warm prey in dark). No external ears โ sense vibrations through ground. Eyes: no eyelids, always open. Movement: sidewinding (desert), rectilinear (straight), concertina (trees), lateral undulation (most common).
