1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89... Each number = sum of previous two. Named after Leonardo Fibonacci (1202 AD) but known in India as Hemachandra sequence (1150 AD) โ even earlier! Appears in nature: sunflower spiral counts (21 and 34, or 34 and 55), pine cone spirals, petal counts (most flowers have Fibonacci number of petals: 5 petals, 8 petals, 13 petals). The most beautiful pattern in mathematics!
