Reaction with oxygen: most metals form metal oxides (basic). 2Mg + Oโ โ 2MgO (white, burns brightly). Iron + Oโ โ FeโOโ (rust). Reaction with water: Na reacts explosively, K even more. Mg reacts slowly, Fe doesn't react with cold water. Cu, Ag, Au don't react at all. Reaction with acids: active metals + dilute HCl โ metal chloride + Hโ gas.
