Sound is a vibration that travels through air to our ears. The ear has: Outer ear (pinna) โ€” collects sound, like a funnel. Ear canal โ€” channels sound inward. Eardrum โ€” vibrates when sound hits it. Ossicles (3 tiny bones: malleus, incus, stapes) โ€” amplify vibrations. Cochlea (snail-shaped) โ€” converts vibrations to nerve signals. Auditory nerve โ€” sends signals to brain, which interprets them as sound.

Animals use sounds to communicate: Warning calls (crow caws to warn of predators), Mating calls (peacock spreads tail + cries), Mother-child calls (elephant calf calls mother), Echo-location (bats emit ultrasound, hear echo to navigate and hunt). Some animals communicate without sound: bees dance to show direction to food, ants leave chemical trails, fireflies flash lights. Communication helps survival.

Natural sounds: thunder, rain, river, wind, birdsong. Artificial sounds: machines, vehicles, music. Noise pollution: too much loud noise damages hearing. Solution: soundproof walls, quiet zones, noise regulations.

Materials: 2 tin cans, String (3 m), Nail
Result: Sound travels through tight string better than through air (string conducts vibration efficiently)
Safety: Sand down sharp edges of cans
