Founded by Chandragupta Maurya (321 BCE). Chandragupta defeated the Nanda dynasty with help of his advisor Chanakya (author of Arthashastra). First empire to unify most of Indian subcontinent. Pataliputra (modern Patna) was the capital. Ashoka was the third and greatest Mauryan emperor.
